“The ACHSE wants to help persons with rare diseases,” explains Eva Luise Köhler, the patron of this nonprofit organization since March, on the occasion of handing over the 10.000 euro donation of Uniroyal. “Unfortunately rare diseases do not have a sufficient lobby in Germany.” The support from Uniroyal helps the ACHSE to gain more publicity and is therefore an important and welcome aid. In the afternoon of September 8th, Uniroyal brand ambassador Alain Prost handed over the check to the federal president’s wife, in the Office of the Federal President.

Background:

“We wanted that the attention, which we achieve with the motorsport-events of the Fun Cup, does not only benefit the brand Uniroyal,” explains Spyridon Spyridonu, who is, as brand manager, responsible for the marketing of the rain tires in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “That is why we used the races to collect money for charity purposes by selling promotional items.” The unbroken popularity of Alain Prost between motor sport-fans contributed to the success as well. The former Formula 1 world champion represents Uniroyal as a brand ambassador and signed patiently every sold item.

Furthermore, Uniroyal invited children cared by ACHSE to the Fun Cup-Race at the Grand Prix course of the Nürburgring on the 17. and 18. September. Alain Prost is going to drive a few fast rounds in a racetaxi with them. An additional 1.000 euro were brought together by an online auction, in which Uniroyal auctioned a driver place in the cockpit of the long-range route in Spa/Belgium.

The Alliance of Chronic and Seldom Diseases (ACHSE) was founded in 2003 within the Federal Working Committee for Self-support (BAG SELBSTHILFE). Members are 18 patient organizations, representing more than 100.000 directly or indirectly affected persons. A series of muscular diseases, inherent metabolic diseases like mucoviscidosis and mucopolysaccharidosis, immune deficiencies like the Lupus erythematodes and different varieties of microsomia belong to the rare diseases as an example.

As a special organization within the BAG SELBSTHILFE, the ACHSE aims at informing about the rare diseases and supporting the individual patient organizations. Above all, the ACHSE represents superior interests at the political level, speaks up for better therapies und encourages the research for rare diseases.

Keyword: Uniroyal Fun Cup

In 1997 Belgium saw the birth of an idea, an entirely new concept. The aim was to create a characteristic car, for all "racing drivers", novices, seasoned and veterans.

The Fun Cup car, with a former beetle look, is a real racing car - tubular chassis, central driving position, centrally mounted rear engine. Easy to drive, with a high degree of savety, it offers some great thrills without running any risk.

In 2004 the Uniroyal Fun Cup was organized in 5 different countries: Belgium, France, UK, Italy and newly as well in Germany. The first Uniroyal Fun Cup race in Spain will take place in 2005.  The races take place on famous racetracks; where Formula-1-pilots drive for the world championship: Spa - Francorchamps, Magny Cours, Silverstone or Monza - and now on the Nuerburgring, too.

The spirit of the Uniroyal Fun Cup, over and above all, is to have fun without taking the thing too seriously. In addition to the practical trainings there are long-haul route races with 4, 6, 8, 12 and even 25 hours time. Teams ranging from 2 to 8 drivers per car are competing against each other.

Coming from TV, radio, daily newspaper, mass magazines as well as specialized magazines, the media are not insensitive to the Uniroyal Fun Cup phenomenon. The AutoBild could be won as a media partner, who is launching their own reader’s team at the start of the Nuerburgring on the 17./18. September.
