A hot start in the Sachsenring

Uniroyal Fun Cup started out on one of the hottest days of the year in Germany: 27 May.  It was so hot to make everybody sweat even without a racing activity.

The attractive curve combination of the Sachsenring, embedded in a hilly landscape, was challenging for the experienced pilots, as well. Besides the German cars, three Belgian cars with pilots from the PRC-Group joined the race.

The drawing of the start places was once more amusing. Randomly formed teams with little experience got the leading take-off positions, while the fastest car landed behind all others. But it changed after a short while, because the car of the Belgian Stefan Scholzen hit the spot. However, the Fun cup novices had to look for their path once or more times.

During the 4 hours racing, the gravel pit was many times crossed. The very safe racing-beetles suffered from the heat, which was noticeable as their starting motors started striking.

Sometimes it went even worse. “We struggled for the sixth place since starting from the 13” told the spokesman Lars Döhmann, who shared the cockpit with Oliver Hilger from AutoBild und Christian Gebhardt from Stern. “But then the drive shaft broke off- and it was end of the drive for us.” He turned to the catering buffet and the cold drinks; went on with a shrug, “that’s racing”.

Scholzen's team reached the finish line without any problems. The three drivers assured their common victory fast and safe.

However, it will not be so easy by the next racing. Around 140 Fun Cup Beetles will be participating in the 25 hours Marathon in Spa-Francorchamps. The spokesman will also engage in the events with full of motivation. Perhaps next time with more luck?
